GTA 5 100% Completion Checklist: Track Required Activities
Reaching 100% completion in GTA 5 requires more than finishing the campaign. The game tracks five categories: story missions, Strangers and Freaks, hobbies and pastimes, random events, and miscellaneous activities.
You do not need every optional activity, gold medal, or Online achievement. Use the game’s 100% checklist to distinguish required entries from additional completionist goals.
The five completion categories
| Category | Required count | How to track it |
|---|---|---|
| Story missions | 69 | Follow campaign progress and the mission record. |
| Strangers and Freaks | 20 qualifying entries | Check the specific entries marked for 100%. |
| Hobbies and Pastimes | 42 qualifying entries | Track eligible activities and their conditions. |
| Random Events | 14 | Complete qualifying encounters around the map. |
| Miscellaneous | 16 qualifying entries | Use the individual checklist requirements. |
These totals describe the 100% checklist, not the number of every activity that exists in the game. Rockstar’s account-linked checklist marks qualifying items with a colored indicator where supported.
1. Complete the story
Progress through the main campaign, including required heist preparations and the ending path you choose. You do not need to experience every alternative heist approach in a single save.
Keep a separate manual save before major ending decisions. This gives you flexibility to explore other outcomes without replacing your primary completion save.
2. Finish qualifying Strangers and Freaks entries
The required subset focuses on Franklin’s qualifying side content rather than every stranger mission for all three protagonists. Check each entry’s 100% indicator before clearing unrelated missions just to increase the category.
Some side-story conclusions depend on collecting items first. If a follow-up marker is missing, review the associated collectible or prerequisite rather than assuming the encounter has disappeared permanently.
3. Track hobbies and pastimes individually
This category includes qualifying races, sports, shooting-range challenges, flight-school lessons, and other marked activities. Different activities require different outcomes: merely entering an event is not always enough.
Record the result after each attempt. For medal-based entries, follow the checklist’s minimum requirement rather than assuming every challenge needs gold.
4. Complete random events as you explore
Stop for qualifying encounters while traveling between missions. You need a subset of available random events, so it is often more efficient to complete them naturally than to leave all of them for the end.
Save afterward when convenient and confirm that the category count increased. Not every brief roadside interaction should be assumed to count.
5. Clear the miscellaneous checklist
Required entries include collectible sets, qualifying stunt and flying challenges, purchases, and selected leisure activities. Important thresholds include 50 spaceship parts, 50 letter scraps, 25 stunt jumps, 25 under-the-bridge flights, and 8 knife flights.
Use the individual account-linked checklist for the remaining purchase and social-activity entries. Complete collectible routes systematically and mark locations as you go; guessing which item is missing is much slower than maintaining a record.
A practical completion order
- Play the story while saving before major choices.
- Complete random events encountered during travel.
- Finish required side-story chains.
- Clear races, sports, and training by category.
- Collect letter scraps and spaceship parts using a numbered route.
- Finish the remaining miscellaneous entries and recheck all five totals.
Why are you stuck near 100%?
Find the incomplete category first. A missing required side-story conclusion or leisure activity is more useful to identify than replaying completed campaign missions. If online tracking has not refreshed, compare the in-game statistics and confirm that the displayed account and platform match your save.
