GTA Online Legacy and Enhanced players cannot share the same PC session. If your friend recently upgraded and you stayed on Legacy, this edition mismatch is the first thing to check. A healthy internet connection cannot make the two versions join each other.
Identify the exact installed edition
Open your game library and read the complete title. Do not rely on the desktop shortcut’s picture or an old shortcut name. Ask your friend to check their library as well. Take a screenshot of the title if there is any confusion.
Also verify which entry actually launches. Having both editions in a library does not mean both are installed, and installing Enhanced does not mean an older shortcut launches it.
Agree on one version
If everyone’s hardware supports Enhanced, your group may prefer using that edition. If one computer cannot run it acceptably, discuss using Legacy together instead. Check availability and ownership in each person’s library rather than assuming everyone has identical access.
Before moving progress, decide which version you intend to use regularly. Rockstar’s migration guidance says that Legacy progress remains after migration, but later progress is not synchronized between editions.

Think of the two profiles as separate paths after the transfer. Earning something later in one does not mean it appears in the other. Choose your regular edition before investing more time into a character.
For example, a group may alternate game nights between versions without realizing that the characters are no longer progressing together. Keep a simple note of your main edition to prevent this confusion.
